For the past 20 years, Katie has held senior management positions covering all aspects of entertainment television programming. Katie is currently CEO of Platform One Media – a newly launched television production and distribution studio backed by TPG and Liberty Global.

Most recently, Katie was Head of Global Live Action Television for Dreamworks Animation. Tapped in January 2016, Katie was tasked by Jeffrey Katzenberg with launching the live action television division for Dreamworks.

In 2015, Katie was recognized in Variety’s Women’s Impact Report; and in 2014, Katie was recognized in The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 100 Power Women in Entertainment.

Prior to Dreamworks, Katie spent five years as CEO, Gaumont International Television (GIT). She was tasked with launching this studio operation in October 2010. GIT produced high-end drama and comedy series and distributed that content globally. In its short history, GIT had over $350 million in production including the series Hannibal, Hemlock Grove, the Golden Globe nominated series Narcos and F is For Family.

Prior to 2010, Katie spent four years at NBC Entertainment. She was recruited to open the NBC NYC development office and was tapped as Senior Vice President, New York Development. Among the projects Katie developed in NY were the Emmy Award-winning comedy series 30 Rock and Lipstick Jungle.

In 2008, Katie was promoted to Executive Vice President, Drama Programming. In addition to development, Katie’s team oversaw current series including Heroes, Law & Order: SVU, ER, and Friday Night Lights.

Katie came to NBC from Imagine Television where she was Executive Vice President of Development and Current Programming. During her five-year term at Imagine, Katie developed numerous comedy and drama projects, including the Emmy Award-winning Arrested Development, which was named Outstanding Comedy Series in 2005. O'Connell also supervised the series "24," Quintuplets, and the final season of The PJ's. She started her executive career in comedy development at CBS.

In addition to her executive work, Katie is currently an adjunct professor in the Peter Stark Producing Program – USC School of Cinematic Arts (Graduate Program) teaching the Overview of Television: Developing and Selling Television course.

In addition, Katie is a regular guest lecturer and on the Media and Entertainment Advisory Committee at her alma mater the University of Notre Dame. She also speaks on panels around the globe.

Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from University of Notre Dame.
