As President of Business Operations and Late Night Programming, George Cheeks has oversight of business affairs for NBC Entertainment, music services for the NBCUniversal television portfolio, and production operations for Universal Television and Universal Cable Productions. In addition, he oversees all late-night programming for NBC’s lucrative and successful franchises that include Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers and Last Call With Carson Daly. He reports to Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment.
Previously, veteran television business executive George Cheeks was named Executive Vice President, Business Operations and Late Night, NBC Entertainment and Universal Television in November 2014.
Previously, he was Executive Vice President, Business Operations, NBC Entertainment and Universal Television since April 2012 and assumed his role at NBC in Fall 2012. In this role, Cheeks was responsible for overseeing Business Affairs, Music Services across the NBC Universal Television Portfolio and Production Operations for Universal Television and Universal Cable Productions.
Cheeks comes to NBC after serving as Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel, Viacom Music and Entertainment Groups, Content Distribution & Marketing and Head of Standards & Practices for Viacom Media Networks, in New York since 2011.
Cheeks began his career as an Entertainment Associate at Loeb & Loeb from 1992-94. In addition, he served as Senior Counsel, Business and Legal Affairs, for Castle Rock Entertainment from 1995-97 and worked as an entertainment attorney at the boutique entertainment firm of Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren & Richman, in Beverly Hills from 1997-98.
In 1998, Cheeks relocated to New York where he began working as Senior Counsel for MTV Networks in the Business and Legal Affairs Department for the Nickelodeon Group; he later became a Vice President and Senior Vice President/Deputy General Counsel there. In December 2002, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel of MTV, MTV2, MTVu and MTV Films. In January 2005, Cheeks again was elevated to Executive Vice President and General Counsel for MTV, MTV2, MTVu, MTV Films, VH1, CMT and LOGO. In 2007, Cheeks became Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and Co-General Counsel, MTV Networks. His most recent assignment was as Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel, Viacom Music and Entertainment Groups, Content Distribution & Marketing and Head of Standards & Practices for Viacom Media Networks, since 2011.
Cheeks graduated from Yale University (Phi Beta Kappa) and received his J.D. degree from Harvard Law School (cum laude).
