Bob Leighton is a Senior TV Executive with close to 40 years of experience in multichannel premium TV.

Bob joined Liberty Global, the world’s largest international broadband cable company with $20+ billion annual revenue from 25+ million subscribers from operations in Europe and Latin America in 2005, and he is currently Senior Vice President, Programming. He is based in the US and is now helping drive Liberty Global’s drive into content commissioning and ownership.

Previously, he was Head of Programming for Starz Encore pay television (1998-2005) where he concluded billion dollar movie output deals with major Hollywood studios, and launched Starz’s pioneering expansion into internet distribution and original programming.

Prior to that, he was at HBO for 17 years starting in 1980, initially in NYC headquarters in various positions in programming including audience research and program scheduling. From 1990, he was based in Europe, launching HBO’s first channel outside the US (in Hungary in 1991) followed by numerous local language movie and thematic basic cable TV channels throughout Central Europe.

Leighton started his career in television in 1979 at Young & Rubicam advertising agency, initially buying broadcast network daytime drama commercial time, and then early sponsorship deals for ad supported basic cable channels.
